Biodiesel Photometer flyer (PDF)

A measuring device for process optimisation in biodiesel production

The biodiesel photometer enables the rapid on-site measurement of triglycerides and glycerol and thus contributes to the control, optimisation, and quality assurance of the biodiesel production process. By means of a simple photometric measurement, these parameters can be determined within a few minutes and without time-consuming sample preparation.

The portable device with the option of power supply or battery operation, together with the accessories required for measurement, is housed in a handy carry case.

Parameter

Glycerin
Triglyceride

Technical specifications:

Size: 19 × 10 × 5 cm
Weight: 0.4 kg
Wavelenght: 520 nm
Mains or battery (9V) – operated
Photometric inaccuracy:
< 0.5 % at A = 1.000

Manual

Size: 45 × 36 × 14 cm
Weight: 1.6 kg

The Biodiesel Photometer is suitable for the following applications:

The triglyceride value of a sample taken at the start of the process can be used to assess whether the amount of catalyst used is sufficient or needs to be increased to accelerate the transesterification reaction. If the sample is taken during the process and at a later point in time, it can be assessed whether the transesterification process has ended (triglycerides < 0.2 Ma %) or must be continued.

Glycerine is produced during the production of biodiesel. This by-product must be removed from the biogenic fuel, as it can damage the diesel engine. According to the underlying EU and US standards, the free and total glycerine content in biodiesel must not exceed certain limit values. The biodiesel photometer can determine the glycerine value from both the organic and aqueous phases.
